Statement of the Polish Business Roundtable on the plans to increase tax thresholds

The Board of the Polish Business Roundtable is greatly concerned with the recent changes in the Polish tax system proposed by the government. The implementation of a fixed 19-percent flat tax rate for entrepreneurs in 2004 – on the eve of Poland’s accession to the European Union – was a very important factor in the development of Polish business and the competitive position of the entire Polish economy.

The Polish Business Roundtable understands the need to meet the needs of social groups which, for a variety of reasons, are in a difficult economic position and require financial support. However, we are strongly critical of the introduction of additional, targeted taxes, which are meant to satisfy this need but which, in practice, weaken Polish companies that are, and will be, one of the major sources of the state’s financial income.
